All of our facilitators are Class “A” TSSA certified technicians. They carry their vast field experience to bring a real world viewpoint to the program. Their expertise in safely retrieving trapped passengers, as part of their job description, and generally being the only responder to such calls, is invaluable.
Tim Besszong, EDM-A, CEI, CET
Tim has been in the elevator industry for over 30 years. He has worked in construction, service, maintenance, as well as a corporate adjuster. He has been teaching the Elevator Apprenticeship Program for 10 years having taught Year’s 1 through 4 as well as the Elevating Device Mechanic Continuing Education program. Tim has served on the Local Executive Board for over 10 years holding many different positions throughout his tenure. He has a vast knowledge of elevating devices from many different manufacturers and has worked in leadership positions throughout his career.
Paul Pettener, EDM-A, CEI
Paul has been in the elevator industry for over 28 years and is currently the owner of a successful elevator company in Hamilton specializing in the areas of modernization, service and maintenance. He is both a certified elevator mechanic and a certified elevator inspector by NAESA International. Paul was also a principal in the “Elevator Engineering Group” which specifically designed and built fire recall service panels for the retrofitting of existing elevators. These panels provide phase 1 and phase 2 in-car operation for firefighters. Paul is well known in the elevator community and brings his knowledge and hands on experience to each training session, ensuring all participants leave the program with the confidence that they can safely conduct an emergency elevator evacuation.
Marcus (Marc) Tevyaw, EDM-A, EDM-SLF, CEI, CET
Marc has been a part of the elevator industry for nearly 45 years as a mechanic, inspector and for the last 15 years Chief Inspector with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority. Recently retired from TSSA he continues to be active in the area of code development participating on numerous code committees including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) code committees responsible for development of the A17.1/CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. He has particular interest in the Emergency Operations Committee which deals with Firefighter’s Emergency Operation. Marc now brings his technical background and experience to the A.L.E.R.T team as an instructor.
Darlene has over 20 years’ experience in the elevator industry as both a Financial officer and Administrator. She co-founded Alcor Elevator and is currently serving as their Director. Darlene has taken on a familiar roll with A.L.E.R.T. by maintaining the administrative, and Financial aspects of the Company. She serves at the Program Coordinator and you may find her at our trade Shows, meetings and classrooms assisting the instructors. Her cheerful approach to organizing everything leaves you feeling well taken care of.
